Decatur is the county seat of DeKalb County and is located 5 miles Northeast of Downtown Atlanta with an estimated population of 26,000. It seems to be larger because of the numerous Zip Codes assigned to the city, but fall in unincorporated DeKalb County. It shares its western border with the city of Atlanta and unincorporated DeKalb County. The Druid Hills neighborhood is to the north of Downtown Decatur.

What’s Going On In or Nearby Decatur?
Just outside of Decatur is Emory University. This is the main campus of the university and a major employment center. As of 2018 (thereabouts) plans have begun to build a light rail transit line from the Lindbergh MARTA station in Buckhead to the campus. Fernbank Museum of Natural History is also just outside the city limits. The Atlanta VA Medical Center is just north of Downtown on Clairmont Road.
